History:
The Church Vaitupu was first founded by the early Christian missionaries in the late 19th century. It was originally part of the South Sea Evangelical Church until 1895, when it became independent as the Tuvalu Missionary Church. Since then, the church has had several pastors, including Rev. M. K. Elisoni from 1914 to 1930 and Rev. Tuakana Lepu in 1956. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Tuvalu.
