The base of the monument is composed of a 24-meter high cylinder-shaped column, which is decorated with eight stars that symbolize the eight provinces of Turkmenistan. On the wall of the column, two giant hands arise out of the marble, forming a pyramid shape that is known as the “Independence Pyramid”.
