Built in the late 19th century, it is a testament to the long and vibrant history between the Greek Orthodox Church and Tunisia's Christian communities. History:

The church was founded as part of an effort to attract members of the Greek Orthodox faith to Sousse. It was built in the late 19th century with funds from the League of Nations. In the early 20th century it was recognized as a pilgrimage site for Greeks from other countries, as well as for Greeks living in Tunisia. It was here that Sultan Muhammad Bey laid the first stone of the foundation. In 1941, it was destroyed by the French Empire's air-based bombardment and was later rebuilt with funds from the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Tunisia. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Tunisia.
