It was here that Sultan Muhammad Bey laid the first stone of the foundation. In 1941, it was destroyed by the French Empire's air-based bombardment and was later rebuilt with funds from the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Tunisia. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Tunisia.
