Worship Method:

The worship method of Sri Anantha Padmanabha Swamy Temple in Adilabad, Telangana is very distinct and elaborate. It consists of traditional prayers throughout the day commonly known as “poojas”. The main poojas include (1) Abhishekam (2) Thiruvilakku (3) Alankaram (4) Nivedyam or Naivediyam (5) Vishwaasam and (6) Arbhratams. These poojas are done twice a day – morning and evening and are observed in that order. The poojas are usually done to invoke the blessings of the deity, Sri Anantha Padmanabha Swamy. The Abhishekam pooja involves offering certain offerings to Lord Anantha Padmanabha Swamy such as jalabhishekam (or sprinkling of holy water), karpoormaalai (or garland of flowers and leaves), thulasi maalai, panchaamirtham (or five-flavoured holy mixture), thulabharam (or offerings of fruits and flowers), and other items. The Thiruvilakku pooja involves reciting of mantras and slokas, and offering garlands of flowers, specially prepared oil and rice, and lighting of the sacred lamps. The Alankaram pooja involves decking up the murti of Lord Anantha Padmanabha Swamy with new ornaments, clothes and offering flowers to the deity. The Nivedyam or Naivediyam pooja includes offering of special food items to the deity on various occasions, such as festivals, special occasions or even to start any auspicious work. The Vishwaasam pooja includes reciting of prayers to Lord Padmanabha Swamy, offering of food items with devotion and performing the sixteen kalasams or concentric circles to make the Lord pleased and invoke His blessings. Finally, during the Arbhratams pooja, offerings are made to appease the guardian deity of the temple, Sri Kshetrapaal (gatekeeper or the protector of the temple).
