is a 7th century temple dedicated to Shiva. It is situated in Thirunageswaram (also called Tirunageswaram), near Kumbakonam in Thanjavur District, Tamil Nadu, India. The temple is revered by the verses of Saiva saints and is classified as Paadal Petra Sthalam. The temple here is considered to be one of the nine Navagraha temples in Tamil Nadu. It is associated with the planet Rahu (dragon's head). The temple is believed to have been established by Rama. An inscription from Rajendra Chola I (1012–1044) suggests that the temple dates back to at least the 10th century. The presiding deity is Naganathar, a form of Shiva. Goddess Ganga Devi is the presence of Shiva. There are also shrines dedicated to Ganesha, Surya, Somaskanda, and Chandikeswara in the temple. Worship Method:
The worship of Thirunageswaram Naganathaswamy Temple follows the ancient traditions laid down in the Vedas and in the Agamas. The temple follows the rules of the Pancharatra Agama. Puja rituals are performed twice a day. The morning puja begins at 8 a.m. and ends at 12 p.m. and the evening puja begins at 5pm and ends at 8 pm. During these pujas, special archanas and homams are conducted to Lord Naganathaswamy and Goddess Meenakshi. The other deities present in the temple are also offered pujan. Offerings like lamps, incense sticks, flowers, fruits, camphor and butter are showered on the idols and the Homams are performed using sacred fire.
