St. Martin Church in Switzerland is a 12th-century Romanesque church located in Erlenbach im Simmental, a municipality in the canton of Bern. It is notable for its memorial chapel that originally served as a mausoleum for the family of the late medieval mayor of Erlach, Heinrich Vogel von Erlach. It is one of the best churches in Switzerland which you must visit.

History:

The church of St. Martin was built in the 12th century and was originally dedicated to the Virgin Mary and St. Martin of Tours. The church, however, underwent several alterations over the centuries and was eventually rededicated as a parish church for the nearby municipality of Erlenbach. The romantic château of Erlach was built in the 15th century, and the memorial chapel was added in the 17th century by Heinrich Vogel von Erlach, who served as mayor of Erlach from 1618 to 1645. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Switzerland.
