History:

St. Joseph Church in Suriname was first built in 1845 in the center of the capital city Paramaribo. It was founded by Father Petrus Van Olinda as a Catholic Mission and was the first Catholic church built in the country. The church was destroyed by a fire In 1863. In 1875 reconstruction of the burned down building began and the church became larger and more ornate with a Neo-Classical look.
