History:
St. James Church - Weweldeniya is said to have been founded by an early Ceylonese priest called Isagoinder Machwanasurayan. He is recorded as having ministered in this area between 1831 and 1835. The construction of St. James Church commenced in 1836. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Srilanka.

St. James Church - Weweldeniya is an Anglican Church in the Diocese of Colombo, Sri-Lanka. It is one of seven mission churches within the parish. The church building is shared with the Weweldeniya Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church.
