Worship Method:

Sadaiyaly Gnanavairavar Temple is one of the oldest temples in the northern district of Kayts, Sri Lanka. It is dedicated to Lord Gnanavairavar, the God of Knowledge. Worship at this temple is done according to the traditional Saiva Siddhanta rituals. Prayers are conducted in the temple daily from early morning to late evening. Offerings of flowers, fruits, and sweets are also made to the deity. Special rituals are performed during the festival days and times such as New Year, Pongal, Tamil New Year, and Ayudha Pooja. Devotees first perform the namaskaram (ablutions) before entering the temple courtyard. After entering the sanctum sanctorum, a devotee greets the deity with a special mantra. He then makes offerings of flowers, fruits and sweets. The main puja is done with the aid of holy water (Gangajal) to invoke divine grace and benediction. This is done by reciting mantras and hymns in order to gain the Lord's grace. After reciting the mantras, the devotee offers all of the items (prepared for the puja) to the deity. This is followed by aarti, which is a ritual of waving lamps and incense around the Lord to demonstrate devotion.
