History:
is one of the ancient shrines located in the Anuradhapura District of Sri Lanka. The Kovil is dedicated to goddess of patti Amman and is regarded as the Goddess of universal mercy. It is believed that this Kovil was built during the worship of the Buddhist kings who ruled Anuradhapura. The temple was further renovated in the fifteenth century by the king Gokanna and it was known as the temple of ancestor worship. The practice of worship in Sri Thirowpathai Amman Kovil, Kudiyiruppu, Mundel includes offerings of flowers, coconut, fruits, betel leaves and nuts, incense sticks and lighting of camphor on the idols of the goddess Sri Thirowpathai Amman. Devotees then perform abishekam (holy bath) on the idol, and follow this by presenting offerings of silk, jewelry or gold coins. Special pujas are held on Fridays and other auspicious occasions, and devotees take part in kalasam rituals and homams.
