: Athiparameswara Amman Temple, Kondavil is an ancient Hindu temple located in the Tamil-majority Northern Province of Sri Lanka. The temple is believed to have been built during the Chola dynasty, in the 12th century by two brothers named Waramalai and Manoharan, who were Pandyan princes from Madurai in Tamil Nadu. It was subsequently destroyed, as well as the nearby Kovilkudimunai Hindu temple, by the invading Portuguese and Dutch powers in the 16th or 17th centuries. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is believed to be the 1000th temple dedicated to the deity in the country. Lord Shiva is the presiding deity and is worshiped here as Athisatyanathar (Lord of the Eight Directions).
