Worship Method:

The Maha Pooja - ritualistic performance of worship - in Chempithodda Gna Vairavar Temple usually follows a common pattern. The Pooja is done three times a day, and consists of offering of flowers, lighting of lamps, circumambulation of the deity image, and recital of their 108 names. The offering of flowers is done as an homage to the deity, and the flowers are placed on the beams, floor and deity as they encircle it and chant mantras. The lighting of the lamps symbolizes the enlightenment, and the lamps are lit around the deity in front of the devotees. After that, the devotees will circumambulate the deity three times and chant the 108 names to invoke blessings. At the end of the pooja, the priest will be offer prasadam– a sweet pudding that is offered to God and is believed to be a form of divine prasadam– to all the devotees in attendance.
