History:

Marstal Søfartsmuseum is located in the town of Marstal, on the island of Ærø, in the archipelago of South Denmark. The museum was established in 1962 and has since established itself as one of the most significant historical museums in the country, dedicated to preserving the maritime history of Ærø. The museum showcases the archipelagoes maritime history with artefacts dating back to the 17th and 18th century. Marstal was once one of Denmark's largest merchant ports and the museum is home to a number of iconic ships including the sailing bark Ærø and the historic pirate ship, Fregatten Jylland. The museum also tells the story of Danish Immigration to North America, with a particular focus on Danish sailors who made the crossing.
