History:
Ballebro Færgekro is one of Denmark's oldest inns, located in North Funen, near the town of Otterup. It was founded in 1751 and is said to have been a popular gathering place for nobles and clergy. It is located on the banks of the Båring Lake and is a popular destination for tourists. In the mid 18th century, Christian Bruun, a former sea captain, bought a house near the lake, which he turned into an inn and ferry landing. He named it Ballebro Færgekro, after himself and his hometown. The inn quickly became a popular gathering place for locals and served as the gateway for ferry travel between Funen and Sweden. In 1820, the inn was passed down to Christian Bruun's daughter, Anna Bruun. She ran the inn until the mid 1860s, when her son, Johan Bruun, took over. During this time, the inn underwent several renovations and expansions, including the addition of new guest rooms and a large garden. The inn remained in the Bruun family until 1886, when it was sold. A new owner, Frederik Just, opened the inn to tourists, which quickly became very popular with the locals. Under his management, the inn saw much success and business expanded. In 1922, he opened the first restaurant in Ballebro and it remains one of the most popular restaurants in the area today. In recent years, Ballebro Færgekro has become a popular tourist attraction, with its beautiful and peaceful setting. Although the inn has undergone several renovations throughout the years, it still retains much of its original charm and character. Every year, thousands of visitors come to enjoy its tranquil atmosphere and enjoy a meal or relax with a drink on the terrace. Today, Ballebro Færgekro is still a beloved destination.
