The Temple of the Protection of the Mother of God, Miroľa In Slovakia is located between the villages of Lúčka and Miroľa. The temple was built around 1780 and is still one of the best preserved examples of an Orthodox Church in Slovakia. The temple is dedicated to the Intercession of the blessed Virgin Mary and it is believed to be protected by her power and grace. The temple has a unique iconostasis with 17th century Russian icons, and a beautifully carved wooden altar with a copy of the famous Miroľa icon. The structure features red walls, a gabled roof, a bell tower and pointed Gothic windows. The interior of the church is covered with beautiful traditional frescoes, which depict the lives of saints and events from the Old and New Testament. The church hosts regular services and is also open for visitors.
