St Athernase Church in Scotland is believed to have been constructed in the early 13th century. It was largely destroyed in 1559 during the Scottish Reformation. In 1810, the church was restored to its previous stature. The present-day building is a combination of the iconic original structure and the extensive Victorian restoration, and has been classified as a category A listed building by Historic Environment Scotland. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Scotland.
