The church has a long history that dates back to the 13th century when it was first established as a parish church. Throughout the centuries it has been known as The Parish Church of the Holy Trinity. In the late 1700s, the building was rebuilt in the Gothic style and later, in 1826 it was extended and remodeled in the Greek Revival style. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Scotland.
