Old St Peter's Church, Thurso is a Church of Scotland congregation situated in Thurso, within the Highlands of Scotland. It is one of the oldest churches in the county, having been founded in the late 11th century. The current church building dates from the 15th century, and is classified as a scheduled ancient monument. The church underwent considerable renovation in 2009, with improvements to facilities, and has become an increasingly popular centre for cultural events.History - St Peter's is thought to have been founded in the late 11th century, and has probably been built upon more than once, with the current church building proving to be one of the oldest in the area. It is believed to have been built in the mid 15th century, and is noted as being the last remaining medieval parish church in Caithness.Facts - Old St Peter's Church, Thurso is classified as a Category B listed building, and is also a scheduled ancient monument. It is noted for its 16th century hammer-beam roof, and the south gallery which is thought to have been added to the church in 1706.Services - St Peter's Church provides regular Sunday worship services, as well as special events and other cultural activities. The church is also home to a variety of local groups, including a church youth group, which meets each week, and a prayer circle.
