History:

New Laigh Kirk was established in 1746 by James Hunter of Burnhouse as a place of worship for Presbyterians in the Townhead area of Ayr. The church was built to replace an earlier building which had been built in 1596 and destroyed due to religious conflicts. The new church was built in a Gothic style and its grandest feature is the spire which stands tall above the surrounding area. The church is constructed of red freestone with yellow accents and the interior décor is notable for its magnificent stained glass windows. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Scotland.
