Lochalsh and Strath Free Church Continuing In Scotland: History,Facts, & Services

The Lochalsh and Strath Free Church Continuing is an evangelical denomination of the Christian church in Scotland. The church was formed in the early 20th century, when some members of the Free Church of Scotland, in opposition to the union between the Free Church of Scotland and the Church of Scotland, chose not to be part of the united church and instead reformed the Free Church as an independent body. The denomination identifies as a Reformed Church and is a member of the World Reformed Fellowship and the International Conference of Reformed Churches. It affirms the Westminster Confession of Faith and the Scots Confession as its doctrinal standards. The church is organized into three presbyteries - Lochalsh, Caithness, and Skye - and sessional meetings, which meet a few times a year. Its membership totaled 1,345 in 2011. The church has traditionally held a conservative view of theology and practice. It has been led by a minister, the Moderator of the Presbytery, and is entirely self-governing. It performs a range of religious services, including preaching, bible readings, and sacraments. Its outreach includes sponsoring mission trips, providing financial assistance to mission organizations, and supporting evangelistic initiatives. It is also involved in advocating for humanitarian causes and seeks to address social issues.
