The church was built in 1831, and is believed to be the first church in the Western Isles to be constructed in the Gothic style. It replaced an earlier church at the same spot, which may have been in existence since Viking times. Garrabost Church is renowned for its ancient stone cross, which dates to the 15th century. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Scotland.
