Its story is believed to date as far back as the 9th century when St Fillan is said to have officiated in the area, though the current building – the third on this site – is presumed to have been built around 1786. Comrie Parish Church has a long and varied history which dates back to the 9th century when St Fillan is said to have visited the Comrie area. It is believed there were two churches that predated the current structure, but it wasn’t until 1786 that the third church on this site was built; designed by well-known Scottish architect, Robert Adam. It underwent significant restoration works during the 19th century and a further restoration in 2001, at which time the spire was given its current dome shape. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Scotland.
