Alvie & Insh Church in Scotland is a Church of Scotland parish located in the Highlands of Scotland. It is situated on the A861 road roughly 8 miles east of Newtonmore and 6 miles south of Kingussie. The parish covers the villages of Alvie and Insh and their surrounding areas. The church was founded in the 13th century but the current building was built in 1776 and has undergone extensive restorations over the years. It is one of the best churches in Scotland which you must visit.

History:

The church was founded by the Elphinstone family in 1268 and was initially dedicated to St. John the Apostle. It remained in the Elphinstones' possession for many years and in 1817 the Lord of the Isles sold it to the Earl of Seafield. Alvie & Insh Church underwent a major restoration of external and internal features in the mid 1800s. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Scotland.

Alvie & Insh Church is a Category B listed building and is home to a pipe organ installed by the noted firm of Nicholson & Lord in 1917. It also contains the tomb of Rev. James Michie (d. 1822), who was incumbent at Alvie & Insh for over 40 years. The parish has an average weekly attendance of around 15-20 people.
