: Masjid al-Mahmoud or Masjid al-Mahmoudiya is an Islamic mosque located in Riyadh city of Saudi Arabia. It is one of the most prestigious and important mosques in the Arab world, built in 1319 AH (1899 C.E.) by the King Abdulaziz Bin Abdulrahman Al Saud. The mosque is best known for its huge multi-domed structure, open courtyard, and its decorative minarets. Masjid al-Mahmoud has been a place of worship for both the local and international Muslim community as long as it has been standing. Architecture:
The Masjid al-Mahmoud is a large mosque located in the Al-Sudeir District of Riyadh. It is a modern mosque and was opened to the public in May 2005. The mosque features a spacious central hall, surrounded by four tall minarets that dominate the skyline. The central hall is adorned with a magnificent chandelier and has seven domes of various sizes. There are twelve grand columns that support the roof. The interior of the mosque is decorated with beautiful marble and tile, and many of the walls are adorned with inscriptions from the Qur'an. Above the prayer hall is a large dome, which is encircled by a golden crown that is lit up each night. The mosque also contains a ‘holy house’, where the remains of the Prophet Muhammad's first wife, Khadijah bint Khuwailid, are kept in a glass case. The grounds of the mosque are surrounded by gardens, fountains, and a car park. There is also an information center located near the entrance. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.
Visiting Hours:
Masjid al-Mahmoud in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, is open seven days a week from sunrise to sunset. Friday prayer services are open for men only.
