Brief History:
is a mosque located in the historic Al-Balad district of Jeddah, Saudi-Arabia. It is one of the largest, most modern mosques in the city and one of the biggest in the country. The mosque was built in the late 1950s and is the second largest mosque in Jeddah. The mosque is named after Mansur ibn Abdel Aziz, the seventh king of Saudi Arabia and father of the current king, King Salman bin Abdulaziz. The mosque has a total area of 10,000 square meters and can accommodate over 12,000 worshippers at any one time. It features two large inner courtyards, two minarets, four domes, and an expansive prayer hall with plenty of space for worshippers. In line with Jeddah’s cultural heritage, the mosque is decorated with Islamic calligraphy, frescoes, and intricate geometric designs. It is one of the most famous mosque in Saudi-Arabia which you must visit.
Architecture:
Masjid al-Mansur in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia follows a traditional style of Islamic architecture.The structure of the mosque includes a main prayer hall, a large dome, a vast entranceway, four minarets, and a large courtyard.The main prayer hall has two levels and is surrounded by four marble pillars and gold-plated decorations. It has large windows and striped panels on the interior walls which allow natural light to enter. The large dome is made of marble and is heavily decorated with mosaic patterns and Quranic verse. The four minarets are decorated with inscriptions of the Quran, as well as ornaments with geometric and floral designs. The huge entranceway is decorated with numerous Corinthian columns and intricate stone carvings. The courtyard of Masjid al-Mansur is surrounded by arched marble pillars and is also decorated with Quranic verses. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.
Visiting Hours:
Masjid al-Mansur is open for visits from 6 am to 11 pm every day. The prayer times at this mosque are typically at Fajr (dawn), Dhuhr (midday), Asr (afternoon), Maghrib (sunset) and Isha (evening).
