The current building stands two stories high and has beautiful minarets. The mosque has three courtyards with an ablution fountain in each courtyard. The structure of the building is made of strong masonry with a flat roof. The Masjid al-Mahdi also contains a number of domes, arches, and halls, which were added during various phases of its construction.
