Brief History:

Masjid al-Jurani (aka Masjid al-Jurrānī), is an Islamic mosque located in Medina, Saudi Arabia. The mosque was built by the Ottoman sultan, Sultan Bayazid II in the early 19th century. It is located close to the historical site of the grave of Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him). The mosque was built at the site where a smaller mosque with three domes existed since the seventh century and was destroyed due to water erosion. The Mosque is renowned for its impressive piece of architecture built in grand Ottoman tradition. Masjid al-Jurani is open from 7 am to 10 pm. All visitors are required to dress modestly and abide by the rules established by the Saudi government. Masjid al-Jurani reserves the right to refuse admission and/or eject any person it believes has violated these rules. Given the current Coronavirus pandemic, and for the safety of the visitors and staff, Medinahas implemented a system of appointment bookings for visits.
