Brief History:
Masjid al-Jurani (aka Masjid al-Jurrānī), is an Islamic mosque located in Medina, Saudi Arabia. The mosque was built by the Ottoman sultan, Sultan Bayazid II in the early 19th century. It is located close to the historical site of the grave of Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him). The mosque was built at the site where a smaller mosque with three domes existed since the seventh century and was destroyed due to water erosion. The Mosque is renowned for its impressive piece of architecture built in grand Ottoman tradition. It features a courtyard with a large fountain built in the centre, two minarets, a courtyard for prayers, and a dome of precious stones and gold. The mosque also has a library and a large selection of books related to Islamic history. It is one of the most famous mosque in Saudi-Arabia which you must visit.

The Masjid al-Jurani is located in the city of Medina in Saudi Arabia. It is an old and famous mosque, having been built in the time of the Umayyad Dynasty years ago. The mosque is of great import to Muslims worldwide, being the burial place of the great prophete Adam, his wife Hawwa (Eve) and their son Sheth (Seth). The mosque is constructed on a rectangular plan, and is built of ashlar masonry with painted decorations adorning the walls. The central courtyard is paved with granite stoops, and there is an old minaret to the east. The prayer hall is covered by an impressive dome, with smaller domes around the courtyard. The mihrab is artfully decorated, as is the facade of the mosque. Inside the mosque is a large mehrab encircled by four marble pillars. The mosque is built as an example of the traditional Umayyad architecture of the Hejaz region, featuring multiple domes, arches and vaults. The mosque is part of the heritage of old Medina, and a protected area under the protection law of Saudi Arabia. It is often visited by pilgrims and Muslims from all around the world and is an important example of traditional Islamic architecture. Visiting Hours:
Masjid al-Jurani is open from 7 am to 10 pm. All visitors are required to dress modestly and abide by the rules established by the Saudi government. Masjid al-Jurani reserves the right to refuse admission and/or eject any person it believes has violated these rules. Given the current Coronavirus pandemic, and for the safety of the visitors and staff, Medinahas implemented a system of appointment bookings for visits. For questions regarding bookings visitors should contact the local Ghiras center or call 920001073. The closest free shuttle from the Prophet’s Mosque to Masjid al-Jurani is available daily from 6:30am until 8pm. When visiting the mosque, visitors will be given a brief orientation by the staff.
