The Al-Baqi Mosque is located in the city of Medina in Saudi-Arabia, and is an important pilgrimage site for Muslims. The building dates back to the 7th century and is an important example of Islamic architecture in the Arabian Peninsula. The mosque covers an area of 6,400 sq meters and is surrounded by lush gardens and two walls. The main prayer hall of the mosque consists of two aisles running east to west and covered by 12 domes. The aisles are separated by columns that are positioned between two semi-circular mihrabs on either side of the entrance. Above each mihrab is a dome, while the walls of the prayer hall are lined with qibla lacework. The mosque has four minarets that tower above the mosque, representing the four schools of Islamic Law. Each minaret is set atop four arches and has three tiers. The courtyard and prayer hall of the mosque are covered by a large dome, which features intricate internal ornamentation. The main dome is surrounded by four corner domes. The marble floor of the mosque is adorned with intricate decorations, featuring Quranic verses, floral designs, and other geometric patterns. The walls of the mosque feature alternating stucco and marble panels, and are adorned with quotations from hadiths. The interior of the mosque is also home to important relics of the Prophet Muhammad, such as his Quran and foot-prints. The mosque hosts numerous events including prayer services and Islamic holidays. Today, the mosque also serves as a major tourist attraction. The visiting hours of Al-Baqi’ Mosque in Saudi-Arabia are from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., followed by a break from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., and the last visiting period from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The Mosque is usually closed during the midday prayer time, which is usually from midday to around 1:30 p.m. depending on the time of year.
