History:

The Central Park of Culture and Rest located in Sochi, Russia, was established as early as the late 19th century. The first project lined up the park and the city as a whole was created by Friedrich Meyer, a German-born architect who was invited to Russia by the royal Romanov family. The Russian Tsar Alexander III was a passionate supporter of the idea to create a park for the citizens of the resort town and formulate it as a beautiful leisure destination for both the children and adults. That is why the park was scored out of boulevards and dotted with lines of trees, so that visitors can have the leisure time to enjoy the nature, ambiance, and the art of park design. The main entrance of the park was designed with an ornate gate that still stands today as the symbol of the park at the intersection of Bakhchisarai Street and Severnaya Street. Upon the arrival of the Soviet Union, the park was re-structured with the intention of creating a place for recreational activities and cultural events. As a part of the reconstruction plan, the park's landscaped areas were improved with new trees, plants, and colorful flower beds.
