Monte Cavo is the highest peak of the volcanic complex of the Colli Albani, southeast of Rome. It is located close to Colle Iano, a large hilltop meadow featuring breathtaking views of the Roman countryside below. It is the starting point for a hike to the south-facing viewpoint of Rome, 2.5 km away. The views from the viewpoint are said to be some of the most beautiful in the Roman countryside, with stunning panoramas of the whole of Rome itself and its innumerable hills and valleys from the northern hills of the Colli Albani. The Colle Iano is also the site of numerous ancient Roman villas, the most important being the Villa Castelli. The villa was used as a summer retreat for the Roman nobility and featured some of the finest gardens in the Roman world. Rome Viewpoint is located nearby and is the perfect spot for viewing the Eternal City in all its glory. From its rooftop terrace, you can appreciate the beauty of the city and marvel at its striking skyline filled with iconic monuments, statues and its iconic ancient ruins.
