History:
The Igreja da Memória was built in 1798 by Father José da Silva Freire and his cousin João Francisco Barbosa Pinto. It was originally part of a small rural village located near the River Pinheiros before moving to its current location in 1813. The church was designed by the then-governor of São Paulo, D. Diogo de Vasconcellos e Souza, with the help of his chief architect, Francisco Marques de Souza. Igreja da Memória This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Portugal.
