History:
The construction of the Church of São Jorge de Arroios began in 1491 and was completed 14 years later in 1505. It was named after the patron saint of Lisbon, St. George, and the surrounding neighborhood. Many changes have been made to the church over time, but it has remained faithful to its original structure. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Portugal.

The original structure of the church is in the late Gothic style, and features an impressive 53-meter-high bell tower. Inside, the church has an elegantly designed baroque interior, with beautiful frescoes, bust and oil paintings, and statues. It is also home to one of Lisbon's oldest organs, built in 1752 and still in use.

The Church of São Jorge de Arroios is primarily a place of worship and is open for people to gather and pray during Mass everyday except Sunday, where it hosts a more elaborate service. Other weekly services include wedding ceremonies, baptisms, funerals, and other religious celebrations.
