History:
The first record of the chapel dates back to 1577. At that time, it was already dedicated to Saint Anthony. The legend is that the first chapel was a circular construction built on the site of an ancient meditation hill, surrounded by fruit trees. The chapel slowly gained importance, and in 1617 it was transferred to the newly formed parish of Santo António. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Portugal.

Capela de Santo António is a typical example of the Gothic style in Portugal. The chapel has a single nave and is made of calcareous stone. The main façade is characterised by a strong verticality and a triangular pediment with an ambulatory. The church has three doorways adorned with Gothic frames and the external fringes on the north and south wings.
