Wat Don Phutsa is one of the most visited and revered temples in Ayutthaya, Thailand. It is noted for its well-preserved architecture, lively culture, and rich history.
Facts:
Wat Don Phutsa was constructed in 1341, making it one of the oldest temples in the area. The “arrow miracle” of Wat Don Phutsa is considered an integral part of the temple’s history, as it is seen as the place where King Naresuan’s arrows were unable to penetrate the ground.
History:
Wat Don Phutsa was originally commissioned by King U-Thong of the Ayutthaya Empire. Although the temple has been restored over the years, it retains much of its original architecture, including the chedi, brick walls, and viharn. It is also home to a variety of artifacts and sculptures, including a large bell-shaped viharn and a fourth-century Buddha statue.
Travel:
Wat Don Phutsa is located in central Ayutthaya and is easily accessible via public transportation. The temple is open to visitors from 8 AM to 5 PM allowed to explore the temple complex and its grounds in reverence.
