The church, formally known as San Pedro de Alcantara, has been existing since 1946. The parish was established on April 8, 1950, when it was canonically erected by the then Archbishop of Manila, Most Rev. Gabriel M. Reyes, DD with Rev. Fr. Leoncio I. Buhain as the first pastor. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Philippines.

The parish of Saint Peter of Alcantara is under the care of the Friars Minor, Order of the Strict Observance (OFS). The original patron of the parish was Saint Joseph, which the parish assumed from the Parish of Holy Cross in Quezon City. Later, it was changed to Saint Peter of Alcantara in honor of the canonization of this Saint in 1962.
