The Romanian Orthodox Church of Nativity of the Virgin In Palestine: History,Facts, & Services

The Romanian Orthodox Church of Nativity of the Virgin In Palestine is a small Orthodox church located in the city of Bethlehem, in the Palestinian Territories. It is an important site of pilgrimage for Romanians and other Eastern Orthodox Christians wishing to visit the birthplace of Christ. The church was built in 1835 by the ruler of Wallachia and Moldavia, Gregory Ghica, at the site that is traditionally considered to be the birthplace of Jesus Christ. It is one of the few churches in Palestine that is under Romanian patronage. The church was severely damaged during the Second Intifada, but has since been restored and reopened to visitors. Today, the Romanian Orthodox Church of Nativity of the Virgin In Palestine provides prayer and worship services, as well as charitable activities in Bethlehem and the surrounding area.
