History:

Immanuel Church was built at the start of the 13th century near the land believed to be where the annunciation of Gabriel occurred to Mary. The original church was destroyed by the Mameluks in 1291 but was quickly rebuilt. It was expanded in the 1600s by the Franciscans but was badly damaged during the French invasion of 1799 and was renovated in 1817. The Church underwent a complete reconstruction and re-consecration in 2007. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Palestine.
