History:

The Church of Jerusalem was established by the Apostles Saint Peter and Saint Mark, and was placed under the jurisdiction of the Patriarchate of Alexandria. Over the centuries, the Church of Jerusalem has seen its ups and downs. It fell into the hands of Persians, Arabs, Crusaders and Ottomans. In 1812, the Patriarch of Jerusalem, Yuhanna, was reclaimed by the Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria and given the title of Pope and Patriarch of Jerusalem in addition to his being the Patriarch of the Coptic Church of Alexandria. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Palestine.
