Church of Saint Thomas, Jerusalem In Palestine: History,Facts, & Services
The Church of Saint Thomas, Jerusalem, is a Christian church in Palestine located in the Muslim Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem. The church was originally constructed in 363 AD and is a prominent pilgrimage site for followers of Eastern Orthodoxy. It commemorates the site where Jesus appeared to St. Thomas after his resurrection. The church has two chapels: one dedicated to St. Thomas and the other to the Virgin Mary. It is believed that the church contains a fragment of the True Cross, a piece of the stone upon which the risen Jesus first appeared to St. Thomas, and a relic of the apostle's finger. The services held at the Church of Saint Thomas include weekly liturgies, feast days of St. Thomas and the Virgin Mary, and other special events.
