Saint Catherine Church In Palestine is a historic church located in the southeast quarter of Bethlehem adjacent to Rachel's Tomb in the West Bank region of Palestine. It is an ancient pilgrimage site dedicated to Saint Catherine of Alexandria, a legendary fourth-century Christian martyr. This Benedictine monastery was built in the 17th century on the site of a church dating back to the 4th century under Byzantine rule. A second church was built on the site in the 5th century, which was then restored in the 11th century. It was later taken over by the Franciscans, before being taken over again and changed into a Benedictine monastery in 1691. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Palestine.
