The Evangelical Lutheran Christmas Church In Palestine: History,Facts, & Services
The Evangelical Lutheran Christmas Church In Palestine (ELCCP) is a Lutheran congregation that was founded in Bethlehem in 1888 by members of the German Lutheran church in Jerusalem. The Church was established to celebrate the Christmas celebrations of the Day of the Lord’s Nativity and to provide its congregation with a place for spiritual enrichment and prayer. By 1914, the Church had established several branches throughout Palestine and beyond, reaching communities in Nazareth, Galilee, and Nablus. Today, the Church serves both its local and diasporic communities in a range of services that include baptisms, weddings, funerals, and Holy Communion. The Church is also active in interfaith dialogue, hosting interfaith dialogues and dialogues with different Christian denominations such as the Greek Orthodox, Maronite, Latin, and Anglican churches. The ELCCP has also been a renowned pioneer of Christian cultural and musical activities in the region since its founding in 1888.
