The mosque has a total area of around 800 sq meters and can accommodate up to 500 worshippers at once. The mosque has a mihrab and a traditional minbar, and a pulpit in the form of a dome. The Sohar Mosque in Oman is a historical landmark located in the city of Sohar, on the north-east coast of the country. It was built in the 16th century by Shaikh Sulaiman ibn Masoud al-Harthy. The mosque is located adjacent to the old souq in the city. It has a finely decorated façade with two large pointed arches and four domes atop. Within the mosque there is a large prayer hall that is equipped with decorative niches, large arches, and a half-barrel vault. The mosque also features a wide open courtyard with an ablutions fountain. The Sohar Mosque is open to the public and has become a popular tourist attraction among visitors to Oman. Visitors should dress appropriately with modest clothing that covers the head, arms and legs.
