Al Wutayyah Mosque, located in Muscat, Oman, is one of the largest and most important religious monuments of the capital city. It has a long and unique history that dates back to the 8th century AD. According to local traditions, the mosque was originally built by Imam bin Mazin in the year 661H (AD 894). It is believed to be the first mosque built in the city of Muscat. Since its construction in 1877, the Al Wutayyah Mosque in Oman has featured the traditional style of Islamic architecture, which is reflected in the Mosque’s distinctive appearance and simple yet elegant design. The mosque features two large domed structures, each with ten distinct sides. It has three mihrabs, or prayer niches, which signify the direction of Mecca, and its five-bay prayer hall is divided into five sections by columns supporting transverse arches. The exterior of the mosque is adorned with a variety of geometric designs, with two-tone bands of yellow and blue painted along the walls. The entrances are framed with decorative wooden and stone doorways, and feature two tall minarets, which provide a place for a muezzin, or Muslim call to prayer. Inside, the mosque features ornate Islamic tile work, intricate carvings, and beautifully painted ceilings. The Al Wutayyah Mosque was built with local materials like mud, gravel, and stone, and is a beautiful example of traditional Islamic architecture that has survived until today. Al Wutayyah Mosque is located in Wutayyah, a small village in the Wilayat of Ibri in Oman. It is located about 70 kilometers away from the capital city of Muscat, and is accessible by car from either Muscat or Ibri. The closest airport is Seeb International Airport, located around 75 kilometers away from the mosque. The airport is served by flights from various cities in the Middle East and Europe, as well as from some select cities in India and other nearby countries. The best way to get to Al Wutayyah Mosque from Seeb International Airport is to hire a taxi or rent a car. It takes around 1 hour and 20 minutes to get to the mosque. Public transport to the mosque is also available, but is limited. There is a single bus route operated by Oman Bus Company which connects Ibri and Wutayyah, with a stop at Al Wutayyah Mosque.
