Brief History:
is the first Islamic place of worship in Salalah, located south of Dhofar Governorate in southern Oman. It was constructed in the late 1970s and is one of the oldest and most revered mosques in the city. It is named after Sheikh Abdullah bin Wajaja bin Razak Al-Siyabi, the founder of Salalah. It is known for its beautiful minarets and intricate Islamic architecture. The mosque features two domes, two courtyards, and an open air prayer area in the center. It is also frequented by worshippers throughout the year, attending prayers and Quran recitals in its main hall and soaking in the tranquil surroundings. It is one of the most famous mosque in Oman which you must visit.
Architecture:
The Al Wajaja South Mosque is a Sunni mosque located in Wilayat Dhank in the Sultanate of Oman. It was built in 2003 and is still in use today. The mosque's architecture follows a classical Islamic design, featuring four large minarets, a large central dome, and several smaller domes surrounding it. The walls of the mosque are made of Mud brick and feature artistic floral and geometric designs. The interior of the mosque is well-lit and decorated with traditional Islamic motifs, including colorful artwork and verses from the Quran. The mosque also features a modern prayer hall and a secluded women’s area at the rear. The design of Al Wajaja South Mosque is representative of the diverse architecture of mosques throughout Oman and the Middle East. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.
