Architecture:
Al Sahwa Mosque, located in Muscat, Oman, is a unique example of Islamic architecture under the umbrella of Persian Gulf architecture. It is a large complex, composed of five principal buildings: the central prayer hall, the two minarets, two qibla units and the campanile. The prayer hall of the mosque is supported by twelve large arches that are visible from the outside of the building. The arches and the two qibla units serve as a strong visual reminder of the two principles of Islamic architecture: unity and harmony. The central prayer hall also features a curved roof with numerous arches along its whole length and rounded edges. The two minarets on each side of the prayer hall are both of similar size, height, and decoration, while the two qibla units are slightly larger and feature intricate sculptured decorations. The campanile is the most remarkable feature of the entire mosque as it stands over 40 meters high and dominates the skyline. Inside, it is composed of two large circular halos divided by a central structure. On each side, there is a tall spire made up of a double spiral staircase that leads to a large platform.
