The Al Sahil Mosque is located in Muscat, Oman and is considered one of Oman's most iconic buildings. It was built in 1984 and serves as one of the country's major religious sites. The mosque has a large courtyard, measuring in at roughly 15,000 square meters (161,458 square feet). Within the courtyard is a pool that is used for ritual washing. To the east of the mosque is an artificial island that sits in the pool. The main building of the mosque is made up of three large domes that are surrounded by three smaller, low-rise domes. The domes are supported by over 50 colonnades, which provide support to the building’s structure. Inside the mosque, there are over 100 prayer rooms. These prayer rooms are arranged in a semi-circle around the main prayer hall. The main prayer hall is adorned with marble and gold finishes and is designed to allow natural light to fill the room. Adjacent to the prayer hall is the Prophet’s Mimbar, a pulpit used for giving sermons. The mosque was designed by the renowned Omani architect, Sheikh Al Shaibani. He combined traditional Arab Islamic architecture with modern concepts to create a building that can be seen from far and wide. The mosque has since gained the reputation of being one of the most architecturally beautiful mosques in Oman. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.
