, The Al Rawdah North Mosque was built in the late 1990s and is located near the old historic town of Sur in the Governorate of Al Sharqiyah North, Oman. It is a small mosque with two minarets and about 12 classrooms, and is the second largest mosque in Sur. The mosque has been used for Islamic prayer and is now used by the community for Friday and special occasions. It is often a popular gathering place for social events and gatherings. Architecture:
The Al Rawdah North Mosque in Oman is a contemporary structure characterized by flowing and sweeping lines. It is one of the few mosques left from the pre-modern Islamic period and the only surviving example of the Najdi style of mosques. This style has been found in other major cities in the region. The mosque features a central courtyards surrounded by 4 porches and two congregational halls. The interior is divided into three main sections with 11 prayer hall sub-divisions. The central hall is raised on a platform and divided into nine symmetrical bays. There is an exterior dome above it, which is adorned with stained glass windows and geometric motifs. The walls are decorated with intricate floral and geometric designs. The entrance portal is grand and arches out from the wall, while a staircase inside the portal connects the two levels of the mosque. A marble-clad mihrab is situated on the frontal wall of the main prayer hall, and an imam’s chair is also present. The mosque features a blend of traditional Islamic design and contemporary elements, making it a unique example of Islamic architecture. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.
