Brief History:
is a mosque in the coastal town of Quriyat in the Sultanate of Oman. The mosque was constructed in the middle of the twelfth Islamic century by the Sheikhs of Quriyat and was expanded in the nineteenth century. It is one of the most beautiful mosques in Oman and was declared a Protected Monument by the Ministry of Heritage and Culture in 2015. The mosque is known for its unique architectural features, including its granite pillars, stuccoed walls, and minarets. It is one of the most famous mosque in Oman which you must visit.
Architecture:
The Al Quriyat South Mosque in Oman is constructed in a traditional style that is uniquely Omani. It is designed to be iconic and is formed by a combination of elements found in traditional Omani architecture. The mosque features a three-layered façade with a series of arches crowning each layer. The two lower layers form a square perimeter while the upper layer is finished off with small domes. The mosque’s most dominant feature is the two stories of traditional wooden timber. This timber structure encase the main prayer hall and provides a unique façade. The mosque also consists of two wings on either side which houses the ablution facilities. The floors are covered in hand-made, locally-sourced ceramic tiles. Other features of the mosque include an ornate minaret at the entrance, chandeliers, and stained glass windows. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.
