It was built in the 7th century as part of the Qarmoul mosque complex, funded by Imam Bilakdum ibn Abdullah Awamil, who ruled the region from 692-695 CE. It was constructed using traditional Omani techniques, including a use of lime plaster to fortify the walls and decorations on the inner walls.
