It was built by the Ministry of Endowment and Religious Affairs along with the generous support of local citizens. The Mosque is a monumental structure set amid the quiet beauty of the Al Ashkharah cityscape and its built in a traditional Omani Islamic style. The building is spread across an area of 24,863 m², and features Ottoman and Turkish architectural influences. The Mosque has four minarets standing at a height of 26 meters with a distinctive green tiled dome, decorated with inlaid glass patterns. Inside, a spacious prayer hall can accommodate up to 40,000 worshippers, and features intricate wooden lattice and decorated Islamic calligraphy on the walls. The Mosque also incorporates a Madrasa, library, women's prayer halls and a comprehensive Quranic school. The Mosque serves as a place of worship, reflection and learning for the local Muslim community. It is one of the most famous mosque in Oman which you must visit.
